Historical Notes
Edward L. Runyon was born in Elburne, Illinois, on November 15, 1863, to Edward S. and Lydia Runyon. He came to Butler County with his parents in 1871, at the age of eight and for six years the family lived on a farm west of David City. They later moved to David City where Edd attended David City High School. He married Nellie Wright on September 8, 1886 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Mr. Runyon was an employee of the David City Tribune at the time of his marriage and then worked for 12 years in railroad telegraphy before purchasing The Peoples Banner newspaper in David City in 1913. He operated The Peoples Banner until 1943. He died August 4, 1955, and is buried in the David City Cemetery.
