This 9.5" x 7.5" black and white photograph shows the brick residence of Christian H. and Marie Christensen, located at 305 East Fifth Street in Fremont, Nebraska. The home has apparently been remodeled twice since it was built. The earliest style seen in this structure is the Second Empire style which can be determined by the presence of the mansard roof, the overhanging eaves, decorative eave brackets, and the dormer window which faces the gazebo roof. The porch at the far left of the home, with its ornamental trim is probably also the original construction. The second style represented is evident in the elaborate two story bay which has Romanesque arched window surrounds with relief work in brick. The window sashes also have Romanesque arches which are rendered even more elaborate by the use of stained glass. Rough surfaced stone trim and a plaque of bas relief work are also visible forms of the style. The wrap-around porch seems to be the most recent addition as it features classical styled porch posts tied to the Colonial Revival movement. It also creates an asymmetrical entrance to the house. The grounds are well-established with trees and two circular flower plantings. The roof and its crowning finial are all that are visible of the gazebo located at the rear of the lot. A section of picket fencing is seen in the foreground. The lawn appears to be recently trimmed.
