The 1901 brick building seen in this actual photograph post card is the second structure to house the Fremont Hospital at this site. The three story building in this image is on the northeast corner of Fourth and Broad Street. "Fremont Hospital" is designated on the front wall of this institution which also boasts a fire escape above the arched entry. Cast iron horse hitching posts topped with iron horse heads are seen in front of the building along with a cast iron street lamp. A male figure is seen seated at a first story window and is very possibly Dr. George Haslam. A second unidentified male has paused on the concrete sidewalk, more than likely a pedestrian stopped for the photographic exposure.
The Fremont Hospital was opened in 1891 through the cooperation of Dr. Luther J. Abbott and Dr. George Haslam. For many years it was the only hospital in Dodge County, Nebraska. The building housed the Nearcourt Apartments in later years.
