Historical Notes
Rising was one of two sons born to Jesse and Sarah Runyon Rising of Butler County, Nebraska. He was born July 15, 1879. His grandparents were early immigrants to Butler County and the founders of Rising City, Nebraska. After receiving his education, Jay moved to Kansas City, Missouri, and worked at the Commerce Bank where he was associated with former President Harry S. Truman. Jay returned to David City for a short time to court and marry Elizabeth Van Lom. They had two daughters. His first wife died in 1919 and Jay then married Rachel Livingston. He eventually became a vice president of Chase Manhattan Bank in New York before retiring to Los Angeles, California, and "The Rising Ranch" in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. He died in Los Angeles, August 16, 1947.
