A 4"x6" glass plate negative, full figure wedding portrait photograph of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Brase, Millerton, Nebraska. Henry is wearing a mustache, dark three-piece suit, a watch chain and medallion hanging from the waistcoat buttonhole, a boutonniere pinned to his lapel, white shirt with stiff collar and figured, knotted tie. The bride is wearing a dark floor length dress with gored skirt and flounce train in back, tapered long sleeves with wide cuff, shirtwaist bodice with contoured pin tucks, small round buttons up the placket and stiff, high-stand collar, a corsage pinned to the bodice and a cornet of small white silk flowers on her head, standing on a dark, fur rug, holding hands with the groom, in front of a painted backdrop featuring an open casement window, a vase of flowers on the sill, flower-filled urn and draperies. |

Historical Notes |
Henry Brase was born March 18, 1878, in Westphalen, Germany, and immigrated to Seward, Nebraska, in 1895 with his mother and siblings. He married Mary Kopke, April 9, 1901. Mary was born May 12, 1885, in Hanover, Germany, and immigrated to Butler County with her family in 1889. They had eight children. Henry farmed most of his life in Butler County. Henry died June 14, 1953, and Mary died March 19, 1975. |
