The Congregational Church had its beginnings at the store of J.E. Porter, west of the present location of Fairmont, on November 17, 1872. The formal organization of the church was completed with 17 charter members. The church was erected in 1879-1880. During 1922, the Congregational and Presbyterian churches were consolidated.
