A two-story brick building with a fire hydrant in front of it stands on a dirt road in this 3-3/4" x 6-1/2" black and white photograph. Mr. Schirk and a helper, both wearing aprons, stand in front of the building on a wooden sidewalk. The letters GAR can be seen in the stone at the top of the building.
The GAR building stood at the corner of Fairmont and Jefferson streets. The building became George Scheper's meat market in 1920 and then the Fairmont public library before it was replaced by a new library in 1969. It was also a dress shop and millinery in 1900.
