A man sits on the porch railing of the two-story brick building in this 5-1/2" x 3-1/4" black and white postcard. The Claredon Hotel, located at 505 F Street, Fairmont, Nebraska, had front and side porches with railings and a second floor balcony. A dirt street and sidewalk run in front of the building. Printed on the postcard is: 43-H, Claredon Hotel, Fairmont, Neb.
In November of 1887, the local paper said: "Our hotel building is fast being enclosed and promises to be a beauty. It will be known as 'The Claredon.'" In April 1907, there were 856 guests. Managers of the hotel included Mr. Brayton, Silas Stevenson, and Fred Storm. The building has since gone through several incarnations: Best Hotel/Lovell-1953; Roy Moore Nursing Home-1961; and Bethesda Nursing Home. The building now serves as the Roper Apartments.
