This charming black and white print of Fremont's 1889 High School building has been taken from an angle accentuating its features and the meandering concrete sidewalks. The brick building in this scene is located on Eighth Street between Main and D Streets. Richardsonian Romanesque architectural details abound here. These include the contrasting stone and brick work, the numerous Syrian style arched surrounds, as well as the highly embellished tower. Also characteristic are the rows of windows with transoms, the ornamental roof ridges, and the post and lintel style porches. The curious depth of field used in this shot makes it a very inviting scene. Finely detailed plants and shrubs create an almost contemporary realism.
