The west side of Main Street between Fifth and Sixth streets is the subject of this actual photograph postcard. The black and white image looks to the south. The imposing Farmers and Merchants Bank on the right hand corner dominates the scene. The 1882 brick structure is embellished with an intricate, polychromed metal cornice, hooded windows, and other applied ornamentation. The bank's first floor masonry walls and large window, as well as entry arches, are also distinctive. Polished granite columns flank the corner entrance and a window box filled with flowering plants appears high above the door. A water hydrant with two low trough for dogs is seen on the corner. Petrow's Candy Kitchen is next door to the south. Advertising signs on the front windows indicate "lunches", "fruits", "candies" and "ice cream" are available. Bader Brothers Company occupies the next two buildings. They offer "furniture", "carpets", and "draperies" for sale. An electric sign also advertises their business.
