This black and white photograph is an excellent view of business house locations on Main Street about 1913. The scene is looking from south to north. A few pedestrians are visible along with some vehicles, both motorized and horse drawn. The street, which appears to be packed dirt, is lined on either side with numerous cast iron street lamps. Businesses on the left include Doerings Hardware, the Fremont Harness Shop, Winter and Sons Shoemakers, as well as Saeger and Sons located in the Saeger Block. Across the street, continuing north, is the onion shaped dome marking the Commercial National Bank at the corner of Fourth and Main. Next door, is the white painted front of the Bijou Theater and above is a sign for John Sonin's Clothing Store. Building construction marks the future sight of the First National Bank on the corner of Fifth and Main. The Farmers and Merchants Bank is on the opposite end of the block and directly across the street to the north, an arched window of the Fremont National Bank is visible. Joe Verbins Bargain Store, or dry goods establishment, appears in the lower right hand corner of the photograph, which is the east side of the street. Next are the Newport Barber Shop and the Newport Billiard Shop. The Terry Grill and Hotel Terry appear on the corner of Fourth and Main. Across the street north of Hotel Terry is Tommy Fox's Saloon with its enthusiastic advertising. W.J. Cronin's Department Store, as well as Hauptman and Thomas Drugs, are also seen in the same block. The Biles Block, with its flat corner, is the last visible building to the north.
