The brick, 1885 building of the Congregational Church is shown on this black and white contact print dating from the early 1900s. The location of this scene is the northeast corner of Military and Broad Streets. Gothic style windows and arches are numerous on this impressive edifice with its variety of roofs and wings. The square, fifty foot bell tower not only houses the bell but also a clock with faces on each side.
The Congregational Church at Fremont, Nebraska was organized on August 2, 1857 under the leadership of Reverend Isaac E. Heaton. The first congregation had seven members. The brick church building depicted by this print was completed in 1885 with dedication services held June 2, 1885. The cost of construction was approximately twenty two thousand dollars and the building had a seating capacity of one thousand. The structure was razed in the 1950s.
