This brick one-story building consists of two wings which house the Fremont Foundry and Machine Shop at 225 North H Street. The photograph was taken on the east side of the structure. The large expanse of metal roof is punctuated by three brick chimneys, a metal smoke stack, and a ventilation shaft with four openings. Exposed rafter ends are seen at the gable. Rounded metal rain guttering and down spouts are also visible. Thirteen men in work clothing are posed in front of the foundry and are holding various tools of the trade as well as small products manufactured by the firm. A large cog wheel is displayed as an emblem of their craft. Dirt piles, unplaced picket fence or gate panels, as well as wild vegetation, including grass and possibly sunflowers, suggest a recent construction date for the facility.
The Fremont Foundry and Machine Shop was located at 225 North H Street. The foundry building was constructed by George Maxwell in 1882. One wing measured 74'x26' and the other 30'x24'.
