The J. C. Penney Company at 529-533 North Main Street occupies the double bay of the 1890 Petrow Block. The two story brick business house is characterized by Queen Anne Style windows and an ornamental metal cornice on the upper story. Tall, showcase style windows comprise the lower story and are topped on the interior by ornate, scalloped lambrequins. Also visible through the glass are women's dresses and other clothing items. One second story window has a striped canvas awning and lettering on the window glass advertises "Dr. Mullins, Dentist". Petrow's Fremont Candy Kitchen occupies the building to the north and Zlotky's Hub Clothing Store is housed to the south where an advertising broadside has been posted in an upper window. The advertisement is for the Sells Floto Circus which will be in Fremont Aug. 11.
