This rare 5" x 7" tintype photograph shows the boarding house and dwelling of Soren and Johanna Andersen, located at 124 East Third Street in Fremont, Nebraska. The proprietor, Soren Andersen, is posed in the side yard holding the lead of a horse. The yard is also filled with wooden barrels, one or two buggies, and a wagon. Two other wagons with spring seats are parked on the dirt street in front of the house. Female members of the household are standing on the wooden sidewalk. Two of the women are wearing work dresses which expose the tops of their shoes. The young lady at the left is wearing a full length dress with bustle and white trimmings. The female in the white apron is most likely Johanna Andersen. Four men are standing on the second story balcony, and a fifth is at the right of the image in front of a shed's sliding wooden door. Frame construction barns and sheds are also features of the scene. The sign hanging from the porch roof reads: "Andersen Boarding House". When this image was printed, the glass plate negative was reversed, causing the letters to read backwards.
