This 7" x 8.5" photograph shows the interior view of the private dining room at The Elms, the home of Ray and Anna Nye, located at 1643 North Nye Avenue in Fremont, Nebraska. The wood trim visible in this room is mahogany and includes crown moldings, doors, wainscot paneling and a classical style fireplace mantel with a marble hearth. An oriental carpet with fringed edges and a center medallion pattern covers the hardwood floor. Exposed flooring around the room's perimeter has been stained dark. The wallpaper has a metallic surface but the ceiling is covered with stenciled canvas. A pictorial tapestry creates a frieze above the French doors along one wall. The doors and matching side windows are mounted with puffed Roman shades. The furniture, also mahogany, includes a server and matching sideboard, a round dining table with pedestal base, and over sized dining chairs, upholstered in leather with exposed ornamental upholstery tacks. The lighting fixtures are metal wall mounts. The fixtures are electric with frosted glass shades. Each has an upright gas jet with no shade. Decorative objects in this room include art glass vases, oriental ceramics, bisque statues, a cut glass vase, and a mantle clock. An art glass ewer is displayed on the table, sitting on a square table cover of Battenberg lace.
