This image shows a spacious living room with an adjoining alcove at Westfield Acres, the residence of Frank and Jessie Fowler, located at 1217 North Nye Avenue in Fremont, Nebraska. The oak wall paneling, doors, and ceiling beams have their roots in the Craftsman style. The upper walls are papered with grass cloth and are decorated with framed prints. Spaces between the ceiling beams are papered with panels of stenciled canvas. The room is furnished for comfort, and the wood trim is softened in appearance by the use of oriental area rugs, upholstered furniture, and decorative cushions. The large, overstuffed sofa appears to be upholstered with velvet and other upholstered pieces include the wooden rocking chair, the wing backed chair, and two arm chairs. A small stand with a Boston fern and a library table complete the visible furnishings. The room's incandescent lighting consists of bronzed ceiling fixtures with opalescent shades and matching wall sconces.
The 16-acre property at 1217 Nye Avenue in Fremont, Nebraska, was purchased by Frank Fowler from Edward Blewett in 1903. The former Blewett residence was drastically remodeled into a 32-room mansion, while the surrounding grounds were transformed to include the stable, a poultry house, and a gardener's residence. The architect secured for the major building project was Alfred C. Clas of Ferry and Clas, architects of the 1893 World's Fair. The estate was razed in 1958.
