This hotel building was constructed in1868 by William Huftalen and was known as the Huftalen House until 1869 when it was renamed the Fremont House by its new owner Samuel Horton Fowler. Charles Tennant took possession in June, 1871 and the structure was destroyed by fire in July, 1871. This building should not be confused with the original Fremont House located at 3rd and E (now Main St.) which was also owned by Mr. Fowler in the late 1860s.
