The six story main building of the Fremont Brewing Company is documented by this 4'x5' contact print. The black and white shot by an amateur photographer captures some interesting details, such as numerals on the face of the building which indicate a construction date of 1891. Bold lettering on the walls designates various departments. Identified are: "Brew House", "Machine House", "Refrigerator", "Storage House" and "Boiler House". The Second Empire architectural tower with its mansard roof and ornamental iron work couples with decorative chimneys to give this factory a distinctive appearance. Wooden beer barrels can be seen in front of the refrigerator department arch.
The Fremont Brewing Company was organized February 14, 1891, and secured A. Moritzen of Chicago as architect. Construction work was done by Seely, Son and Company of Fremont. The firm opened for business in 1892.
