A large three-story brick school is seen on an angle in this 9-1/2" x 7-5/8" black and white photograph. There is a courtyard in front of the school and trees around it.
Bancroft School was Lincoln's first modern elementary school building. At the time of this photograph, the school was located at 1420 U Street, where it operated from 1916 to 1964. Previously, the school had been located at 9th & T Streets, from 1881 to 1915. Because of its location on the university campus, Bancroft also served as a laboratory school.
