Color postcard (14 x 9 cm) titled in the lower left corner "The Heart of Omaha By Night, Omaha, Neb." this is a view of the Brandeis Store at night, located on the southwest corner of 16th & Douglas, Omaha, Nebraska. Behind it is the New York Life Building with the cupola at the northeast corner of 17th & Farnam, and the clock tower to the right of it belongs to the old City Hall at the northeast corner of 18th & Farnam.
The Brandeis Building, located at the southwest corner of 16th and Douglas, was built by Jonas L. Brandeis and Sons in 1906 at a cost of $650,000. They previously operated a store named "The Fair" and in 1888 opened the Boston Store on the northwest corner of 16th and Douglas. This building seen here became the focal point for downtown retailing. In 1921 two more floors were added. In 1980 the building was sold to a developer and the first two floors were converted to commercial use and the upper floors to office space. In 2005-2006 the building was converted to condominiums.
