There are three rows of women dressed in black with white aprons and the front row consists of men in black pants and ties, white shirts and suit jackets. There is one woman seated in the middle, and three men, dressed in black, standing in the back row.
The Calumet Restaurant opened in 1897. It was initially owned by Tolf Hanson, but, in 1908, ownership of the establishment was transferred to Hanson's brother-in-law Sidney Swanson. The Calumet closed in 1927 when Swanson moved to Los Angeles. At its peak, the Calumet employed roughly 100 people. Source: Nelson, O. M. The Swedish Element in Omaha.
