Color postcard (14 x 9 cm.) with an exterior view of the Deaf and Dumb Institute at 45th and Bedford in Omaha, Nebraska. The institute was later renamed the Nebraska School for the Deaf. The image is looking across an immense lawn at three large brick buildings.
The Deaf and Dumb Institute started out in 1869 in a building located at 14th and St. Mary's Avenue but one year later it moved to a new building at 45th and Bedford. The school remained at that second location for the remainder of its existence - 128 years. The Nebraska School for the Deaf (as it had been renamed along the way) closed in 1998.
