Black and white postcard (14 x 9 cm.) photograph entitled "Hamilton County Court House Aurora, Nebr." at the bottom of the image. There is a white border at the bottom of the card with "Pub by Olson Photograph Co., Plattsmouth, Neb." The photo shows an exterior view of the Hamilton County Court House in Aurora, Nebraska. It has an arched entry, a central bell tower, and smaller corner towers, and is built of red and white limestone.
Hamilton County's Richardsonian Romanesque-style courthouse in Aurora was designed by William Gray in the County Capitol form. County Capitol was a style flourishing from 1880 to 1900 and was inspired by the U. S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. They were square-shaped buildings with corner pavilions (tower-like projections) and a prominent central domed tower. It replaced a structure that burned down, was built for $55,395, and dedicated in 1895. In the 1970s it received suspended ceilings; in the 1980s, $220,000 for new heating and air conditioning; and in the 1990s, $135,000 to make the building compliant with the American with Disabilities Act, including the installation of an elevator.
